(4) Any chance anyone here has used the Princeton “mini detailer” brushes? They have some small rounds (0 or 2) that I was really interested in trying out for the ink, but not sure if there’s any real benefit to them over similar lines of brushes. I’ve read mixed reviews on both, and I have no clue how they would fare with ink. (the simply simmons are about $4 a piece). I had also picked out a Robert Simmons Simply Simmons round 10 and 1” flat wash. (3) Does the quality of the watercolor brush matter as much for ink as it does for watercolor? I was planning to grab a modest little set of Winsor & Newton Cotman watercolor brushes. ![]() That said, they were an investment for me, and if the ink will ruin them, I definitely want to purchase brushes for ink alone. My existing watercolors brushes are nothing top of the line – just some synthetic Princeton brushes. Others say reserve a set of brushes for ink alone. (2) Will using ink really ruin my existing watercolor brushes? I find very mixed answers to this question… Many people tell me that if you are diligent in cleaning, you’ll be fine. That said – any particular qualities to look out for in the brush? Is it better the brush is on the soft side, or more firm? Is a thirsty brush a good brush for ink, or the opposite? (1) As far as I’m aware, watercolor brushes are ideal for applying ink. Here’s the things I’m still completely confused about (don’t feel pressured to answer all questions – I’ll be grateful for info about anything below): This is just those basic speedball sets you find…) Though I have the pen and nib set, I really want to try my hand at using the paint brush to apply ink. ![]() I have also purchased some basic Speedball pen and nib set (I’m not sure if I’m allowed to post links to show products. I have some Speedball India ink, as well as some of Dr Ph Martin’s line of calligraphy inks. My interest with ink is both in larger washes, as well as detail work (not entirely sure yet as I haven’t started, but both I think are likely.) I have never worked with ink before. I have some general questions about ink (more specifically, using a paintbrush with ink), which despite trying so hard to research on my own, I fail to be finding answers to.įor context – I’m planning to use ink as an addition to some pencil + watercolor work I am doing. ![]() I tried to read all “read me first” posts before posting, but in case I missed anything, I hope I’m doing things correctly, and that this post fits here. Hello folks, this is my first post on Wet Canvas.
